First Impression Canon 5D MKIII Review & Images Part 2 ISO Sensitivity

The new Canon 5D MK III handles noise at high ISO fantastically and the usability of its images at high ISO is quickly observed.  Here is a beautiful example of what I had hoped would be possible!  Shot in near darkness about 1/2 hour after sunset at ISO 10,000, 1.2, 1/100 , the overall effect of the photo was ethereal and magical!  The bokeh took on unique soft shapes, the colors were golden and wonderful, and the creative opportunity became limitless!  Even the SOOC image below was amazing to me given the lack of light!  I added noise reduction and gentle processing.  It was a delight to see what the 5D MK III can do in situations where a flash previously would have been required and hence disrupted the soft lighting I sought to achieve.

Below is a shot from a recent Easter program The Living Cross shot at ISO 10,000, 5.6, 1/125.  I was most impressed here by the brilliant colors.   Shot from the auditorium balcony, I was very pleased with the image given the high ISO and the opportunity to use a 5.6 aperture with no flash in a completely dark room other than at the stage area.  Certainly it was suitable for web use or a small print and might be improved with processing.  The Canon 5D MK III produces beautiful brilliantly colored RAW images.  For photographers whose venues restrict flash use, the Canon 5D MK III is a worthy consideration.  See PART 1 of my review of Canon 5D MK III also.
